Decorative curtain rods are essentially furniture for your winodws that are meant to be seen along with your draperies. There are basically two types of rods: (1.) Traverse rods which have a mechanism (either a cord or sliding parts) that allow the draperies to be opened/closed or (2.) Simple decorative poles. Both of these decorative curtains rods can be made in either metal or wood in a variety of colors and sizes. Choose a style that complements your window treatments, the decorating style of your room as well as the architecture of the room.

Decorative Traverse Rods are used when the rod is desired to be seen as part of the window treatments and the draperies are required to open and close often. The track is either attached to a facsia or "railroaded" inside a decorative pole. Curtains are mounted to carriers via drapery hooks or pins. Carriers slide along a metal track. Higher quality traverse rods use ball bearing carriers to support easier movement of heavier draperies.Traverse rods are especially desireable for use in wider openings as the drapes are not impeded by center brackets. Components of a decorative traverse rods: decorative pole or facsia, track, carriers, master carrier, (cords and pulleys may also be available)

Simple Decorative Rod Sets are one of the most common types of window hardware. Drapes may be mounted directly on the curtain rod or attached to curtain rings via drapery hooks or pins.

 

Wood poles typically 1-3/8" -3" diameters

• Smooth
• Fluted or reeded

Metal poles typically 1/2" - 2" diameters

• Round Hollow Poles usually 3/4" - 2" diameters
• Solid Metal Rods usually 1/2" - 1" diameters
