Swag holders and Drapery tiebacks are often used interchageably. Tie backs provide a finishing touch for many styles of treatments, from airy sheers and voiles to traditional, ornate draperies. Whether you want to let the light shine in, situate your drapes in a more aesthetically impressive style, or simply need the versatility in your window treatments, drapery tiebacks come in handy quite often. Holdbacks are available in two common base styles: Post & U-Shape. The base is attached to the wall. The base for tie backs are usually wood or metal. The finials or medallions on the end of the tie back are what is most commonly visible. These decorative ends are commonly attached via tap and screw for finials or spot welded directly to the chosen base style. Decorative finials and medallions are crafted from a much wider variety of materials the most common of which include metal, wood, resin, glass and crystal.
A few of the more common methods to use hold backs: 1. In place of a curtain pole, lightweight swags may simply drape over the holdback with gentle swoops between each holdback. The post and medallion style of holdback is most commonly used for this application. 2. In place of a stationary curtain rod, tabs or ties may be secured to holdbacks. This style requires an individual holdback for each tab or tie. The post and medallion style of holdback is most commonly used for this application. 3. To pull draperies away from the window, holdbacks in this application are typically postioned at sill height with functioning drapes to keep the maximum view when the drapes are completely opened. Holdbacks are expecially useful when longer curtain poles are unavailable (due to space or aesthetics) to provide sufficient natural stackback of the drapery panels. Both U-shape & post style of holdbacks are used for this application. 4. To gather or dress stationary curtain panels. Holdbacks are typically positioned to gather and lift curtains. This application is usually used with more ornate side panels. Both U-shape & post style of holdbacks can be used for this application, however the U-shape is typically preferred When choosing an accessory like a tieback, it is easiest to start by matching it to other visible decorative hardware such as curtaion poles and finials.
