Roman shades are fabric shades that fold up from the bottom (or in some cases down from the top) in an accordion fashion. They are drawn up in even folds with cords along the reverse side. The folds are typically 2-4 inches and may be loose or structured. Roman shades are attractive for their sleek, tailored look and relatively small stacking distance. These shades can blend the architecture of the window with the interior design of the room. Roman shades are also very desirable for room darkening especially in combination with stationary drapery side panels and/or top treatments. Roman shades come in a variety of fabrics and now even alternative materials. Roman shades are available in wide array of styles from traditional flat romans to contour pleated shades. Add options such as valances, scalloped bottoms, or decorative trim to create a unique look. Roman shades are operated by a pulley system and have cord, clutch and cordless operating systems. Roman shades may be lined, interlined or blackout lined and can offer some light blockage and insulation protection. Roman Shades now have a variety of lift mechanisms including the traditional cord lock lift system, clutch roller mechanism or sleek, cordless spring lift system. 3 Most Common Roman Shades
